Scooter riding is great fun for kids - especially when they're out and about with confidence and a sense of safety. To make sure every ride stays safe and enjoyable, there are a few simple rules to follow. These encourage awareness, respect for others, and help children control their scooter – whether at the playground or on the sidewalk.
1. One child per scooter
A scooter is designed for just one rider at a time. If more than one child stands on it, they can easily lose balance and tip over. This can lead to falls or injuries. That's why it's important that only one child rides at a time - this keeps the experience safe and gives the rider full control.
2. Both hands on the handlebar
The best way to stay in control of the scooter is with both hands firmly on the handlebar. Riding one-handed or holding objects while scootering makes steering harder and increases the risk of tipping over – expecially on uneven ground, when braking, or if something suddenly blocks the path. Holding on with both hands provides greater stability and safety.
Many kids quickly learn to ride one-handed without losing control. Still, it's important to first practice with both hands to safely maintain balance. This helps them ride confidently while avoiding accidents.
3. Step off at crosswalks
Crosswalks are fore pedestrians, so children should stop, get off their scooter, and walk it across the street. This way, they stay aware of their surroundings and learn to follow fraffic rules. Once safely on the sidewalk again, they can hop back on and continue at a safe speed.
4. Always wear a helmet
A helmet is essential gear for scootering. It protects the head in case of falls and helps prevent injuries. Make sure the helmet fits properly - we explain how to adjust it correctly in a blogpost. Only a well-fitted helmet offers full protection.
Scoot and ride helmets also feature an integrated LED light at the adjustment wheel - perfect for added visibility in low light or at dusk.

5. Choose the right speed
Speed should always match the surroundings. On sidewalks, near people, or in busy areas, kids should ride slowly and carefully.
In open, safe places like parks or bike paths, they can of course go a bit faster – as long as they stay in control and watch out for others. This way, scootering stays fun and safe.
By following these simple rules, kids create the best conditions for carefree riding adventures. They can explore their world, build new skills, and stay safe - with peace of mind for parents and lots of fun for the little riders.
